Biosamples and their storage

Biosamples and their storage

Biological materials are used in different areas, mainly in medicine and healthcare field. These may be vaccines, analyses, probes.

Laboratories and diagnostic centers may be separated by huge distances. Sometimes, a definite site may only possess needed technology and staff thus the required analysis may be performed therein only.

Biosamples delivery is a crucial step in the chain, requiring the strict regulations and rules, since end result is dependent on the compliance with these.

Particularly, there is legislative regulation of the biosamples’ storage and shipment. Special attention is paid to the temperature regimen which is to be stable within the whole delivery period; all the parties of the delivery chain are to maintain this, and special premises and storage and control equipment are used. Vast experience of rapid customs clearance and all applicable licenses are also of a great significance to perform import or export.

Beside storage and shipment requirements, there are regulations of blood samples collection, such as: vessels to be used, ways to prepare patient for the procedure, or labeling instructions.

Types of the biosamples:

  • Human samples: whole blood, serum, plasma, urine, sweat, synovial fluid, bile, salivary fluid, mucus, nasal discharge.
  • Biopsy samples
  • Animals’ biosamples
  • Other biomaterials
  • Medical drugs
  • Vaccines

General requirements for terms and conditions of shipments.

Temperature +2 - +8 ° С, except bacteriological, virological, and parasitological studies listed in the Regulation MU 4.2.2039-05 “Technique for collecting and transporting biomaterials to microbiological laboratories” and other relevant documents.

Cargo labeling when shipped

А – hazardous cargo which may entail serious consequences for human’s health. They are labeled with a special sign of biological hazard.

В – other, not related to the above specified category
